Arinaga Coast in Gran Canaria

Arinaga

Arinaga, coastal town of Gran Canaria

Arinaga is a coastal town in the southeast of Gran Canaria, in the municipality of Agüimes. It is an area with a local atmosphere, away from mass tourism, with a seaside promenade, restaurants, bars, accessible beaches and a daily life closely linked to the sea.

It is not a big city nor an area of large hotels, but it offers enough services for a comfortable stay: supermarkets, pharmacies, shops, cafés and restaurants with reasonable prices. It is a great place to try simple Canarian food, such as fresh fish, wrinkled potatoes with mojo or roasted pork sandwich.

The seaside promenade allows you to walk along the coast, from the lighthouse area to quiet beaches and swimming areas. One of the best known spots is the Soco del Negro, a natural pool protected from the waves, with wooden sun decks for sunbathing and swimming in the sea.

Arinaga is also a common area for sea activities. Diving is very present in the town and nearby is Playa del Cabrón, a protected natural underwater landscape, known for its diverse marine life. In the area, sports such as windsurf and kitesurf are also frequent.

On summer Thursdays, Arinaga is usually livelier at night with the pinchos, a local tradition where bars and restaurants offer small dishes to accompany drinks. It also highlights the popular festival of Vará del Pescao, a celebration linked to the area's fishing tradition.

Arinaga is suitable for those looking to stay in a quiet, local coastal area, with the sea nearby, restaurants, seaside promenade and a good location to explore Gran Canaria without being in a conventional tourist zone.
